Whenever the Stora need to check if there's any available firmware update, it does it by checking a particular webpage:. If checking for that webpage returns a "no update", it means no update exists really? The downloaded image isn't ready yet as it contains Axentra signature, probably to check if it's genuine and to prevent people not like us : from extracting it, so issue this command to check the signature and extract the real image:.
Skip to content. Plus they are going be more trouble as flash is no longer supported. I don't know that I would go to the trouble of a full featured web service, but a simple way to set prefs would be nice.
I don't know that it is worth writing a new firmware or even updating the kernel given the hardware limitations. Even upgrading samba will run out of memory.
Of course you could use swap space on the HDD but I don't know if it is worth the effort. Thanks a ton Spent 2 hours with Seagate helpdesk. They had no clue. Finally found this site through google search and it worked in my 2nd try.
I think the trick is to use small USB drive. Thanks DPS. I thought the trick was small USB drive too, but people have had success with 32GB USB and I've never experienced problems flashing so we still don't know what the secret is - some USBs work and some don't is all we can say. Flashed mine as forgotten the password. Works perfectly, albeit Seagate have stopped supporting the mobile app. Thanks so much, saved my parents from losing all of their personal files!
Hi Karenda, it seems that your GoFlex Home must have an internet connection when you do the reflash see the comment from Thierry Lapointe on 6th August. Even though seagateshare is no longer active and you can't register your device the flashing script still checks for an internet connection. Hi Kenji, I want to start by saying thank you for this guide and keeping this post alive.
I followed your instructions and unfortunately I am stuck between step 6 and 7, the green light flashes a couple times and it starts flashing white.
After a couple minutes the light starts flashing green and it never turns solid. Any advice on getting pass this? Thank you -G. Hi G, it could be lots of things and without hooking up a serial UART to see the output it is impossible to say.
It could be too many bad blocks on the NAND memory. Flashing green means it is trying to boot the OS but something is stopping it from finishing. My goflex started encountering problems the last few weeks. THings like the drive not being detected in the WebUI. I would reboot and all would be fine. Most of me data was stored in GoflexHome Public folders. Do you think there is any chance at recovering the data? Yes I think there is a good chance of recovering the data. Use the ls command in ssh to get listings of the files to make sure they are there.
I had the same issue. At first I was able to see all my "Public" folders hadn't found the Private folder yet bt I think I pulled the USB cord without the drive being "Safe To Remove" and the next time I used the interface the drive was un readable.
My daughter has a LINUX machine and lo and behold with the same interface I was able to mount the drive see all the "Public" files and transfer them to another drive. I also found the "Private" folder in the "Users" directory and the "Backup" folder AND a folder with an old user that I had created and deleted long ago.
Thank you so much. Thank god I found your page as I was about to throw away My disk. My GoFlex base station died so I had to buy a used one from eBay. Needless to say, the one I bought had an account and password that I didn't know. I figured I had wasted my money until I came across your site. A full format of a 32gb USB stick did the trick for me. Thanks so much!! I still have no idea why some USB sticks don't work, but you have confirmed again that it isn't the size that is the problem.
Thanks, that worked fine for me. I recovered one for a friend who'd lost his credentials. I ssh'ed to the device and used du -sh to narrow down where user data lay. Thanks Poncho Vilain, I don't know what happened to your comments I changed the sort order to newest first with CSS but yours still don't appear without clicking Load more at the bottom of the page.
Yes, there is almost zero security and Seagate could probably have done more to advise users that anyone can access any user files, either by SSH or by connecting the Hard drive directly to a PC. Worked for me! I was able to use the device has been off for years but didn't remember my username or password.
You instructions saved me. Unzipped files onto the USB stick. Turned off the unit, removed the drive. Held the reset switch and then hit power. I don't recall, but we may have removed the reset switch push immediately after starting. Decided to try again. Turned the unit off. Held the reset button, and turned it on. This time, we waited like 20 seconds before letting go of the reset button. This time, it was successful. I've tried 3 usb sticks, made sure the ethernet is connected I've even tried 2 different cables.
You can't really see the white light so soon as the flashing green light goes away I let go of the reset switch. The light goes orange after it completes. When I try to log into the go flex, it wants to connect to seagate share. I think it's still on the old firware. Is there a work around I am I missing something? Or anyone have the rufus settings?
Hi Gman, yes if it wants to connect to seagateshare then it is on the old firmware. It is difficult to troubleshoot because I don't have the problem with the orange light, but several users have. It seems to be something to do with how your device and router are configured to connect to the internet. Few months ago, I installed ArchLinux.
Now, I want to reset to install stock firmware. But I'm facing issue, the amber led is blinking forever. I already pluged network cabble and hold reset button in several minutes, but the amber led still blinking. I saw some guys have same my issue Installing Archlinux replaces the bootloader so you can't simply flash the stock firmware. Google search on "goflex home revert to stock firmware" for help. If you have access with SSH then it is fairly simple.
Hello, I have just brought my GoFlex home out of storage, and I cannot remember the admin password to access the data in all the user accounts. Will I need to reflash as this post suggests? If you only want to access the data then you could pull the hard drive out and connect it with SATA. I don't know any way to access the data through the device without password other than reflashing.
I have recently needed to update all of my systems. My Goflex home drive died. I have installed a new hdd in the enclosure and am trying to get it up and running again. Is there anyway around using flash? I'm having the same issue with my windows 10 machine. I'd love a workaround as well. Hello, not works for me, i got a orange led and when i reboot Seagate try evrytime to connect on seagatashar :'. Hi guys.
I'm another user that had to format using SSH by the reflash instructions above.. I got my goflex up and running, solid green light, mounted and mapped to all PC's in the house..
I can't get the permissions set. I have an older GoFlex Free Agent. I can see it on my network, but when I login, it says the Dashboard won't run without Adobe Flash. How can I get around that just to use it for NAS? I found this browser with flash support and i'm using it to manage my GoFlexHome.
Hi Kenji, My GoFlex Home hard drive was not responding so I used the reset button, only to realize later that the Seagate support webpage said "Do not use the reset button". I was on the phone with Seagate support and they said they could not do anything, which was very disappointing. I was about to give up and resigned to lose all my pictures in the drive. Luckily I found your page and followed your instructions. My first 5 attempts failed and I kept getting the amber light. Until one of the attempts was successful.
I'm not sure what was the cause of the failed attempts though. Now I have access to all my files. Your instructions save me! Also deleted some hidden files ". Not able to get flash running but have ssh access. Can I change the admin passwd in a bash session? Use the passwd command. If you need more info enter "Can I change the admin passwd in a bash session" into a google search.
However, I upgraded my router last month and was not able to access the GoFlex and reset it only to find out that Seagate has stopped this service. I contacted Seagate support but of no use.
Just followed your steps as it is and was able to bring my GoFlex back to life in the first go itself. You are really a genius. Also, I have changed the password and disabled Remote Access. I am now able to access my hard disk on my Windows 7 laptop and using "File Explorer" app to access the contents from my iPhone.
Is my data safe now? Are there changes of data being hacked? Please provide your response. Thanks in advance! If you enable web access from the internet then there is chance of being hacked. This is the real reason Seagate shut down seagateshare. If for some reason you need remote access to the web pages then see my post GoFlex Home iptables firewall security. You can apply the firewall rules for any internet access SSH or SFTP, but the insecurity is in the hipserv web pages so it is best to keep ports 80 and closed.
Hello Kenji, Thanks for your quick and kind response. Also, I access it from my windows 7 laptop by mapping the drive. Thanks in advance. Hello Kenji, Thank you very much for your support. Much appreciated that you have been supporting people since on this issue. Take care..!! Can someone please help me here I would be so Grateful I cant login to my Goflex Dive on my Network as its connected using a network cable i did the Big mistake of Resting it by using a pin in the side, I did this because i couldn't remember Password how can i access it now???
Please any help would be Awesome thankyou. I know my user name and password for my gofex home account but I can't access anything because of adobe flash player. I have some emotional data files on the drive which I want to access. Can you please help me in this? Your input is highly appreciated. I have already unplugged and diconnected drive from base many times but it didn't work.
I know my user name and password for my goflex home, but I can not access it because of adobe flash player. I have very important and some emotional video files for my dad on the drive, which I want to access.
Ten days ago, it was working fine. Your help in this matter is highly appreciated. See my post about fixing the MB issue for instructions on running pchkntfs.
Drives fail. Very important and emotional files should always be backed up. Fantastic solution. Many, many thanks. I am from Costa Rica. A help for other I got the solid amber light even connected to Internet. My wife had an old 1 GB usb stick and this worked fine. This 1 gb usb stick had too a green led of activity that was useful to see that the process was working because the first try failed. In the second attempt, after 4 minutes, the process succesfully finish.
Thank you very much!!! You are the bottom of the man. I tried the usernames of my old setup and they don't work, so am I missing something here? What is the password to ssh into the drive? Thanks Dave. Thanks a lot for the firmware, I have reflashed, but now there is next problem: when I log in it is asked for adobe flash player, that is not supported and accessible anymore. What suggestions about that? The flash worked great for me and I can now log in virtual machine with Windows 8 but I can't create new accounts.
I get an error message 'The server could not be reached. Please try again in a few moments. Like it says in my post "Make sure that remote access is disabled first otherwise the system will attempt to update your password on the remote server seagateshare and will fail with a "server could not be reached" message. Pages Home About Disclaimer. GoFlex Home Firmware reflash without Seagateshare. The best thing about the GoFlex Home was that that if you forgot your password or acquired a unit with unknown user credentials or just messed things up too badly using ssh , then you could always reflash the firmware and start over with a GoFlex Home just like one straight from the factory.
But reflashing wipes out all user accounts and you need to set up the first user over the internet. So now that Seagateshare server has shut down what if you need to reflash your firmware? I have made a copy of the stock firmware with the small difference that the first user has already been created and you don't need the Seagateshare server to initialize.
On the other hand, you're probably reading this because you're stuck on the registration page and if your GoFlex Home is already not useable what have you got to lose? If you decide to go ahead, you might consider disabling port forwarding until you have reset the password for the default admin account, because anyone reading this knows the default password.
It is very important that the very first thing you do after reflashing the firmware is log in to the web interface and change the password for the admin account.
