How to remove securom from a game
If you have been successful, you should now get this message: 'Key successfully deleted. Scan complete. At the prompt type: 'regdelnull hku -s' 2. When you have conirmed this, type 'y' and 'enter' to delete. If you do: Congratulations, key deletion completed!
Now, let's proceed to getting rid of the Securom service and related utilities. These are located in the system32 directory on your computer, so let's navigate there: 1. The reason is that the executable uaservice7 belongs to the SecuROM user access service. It's apparently what allows SecuROM to get additional priviledges if your game is run from non-admin accounts on your computer. I have installed and played my games as an administrator, so I get an error alert see my screenshot.
If you get the same message and you are certain that you have installed and played your game as an admin, don't worry! You have not got uaservice7. Proceed with the next step. NOTE: You may have noticed that I opened a new window now - you don't have to do this, I did because for screenshots I prefer the relevant parts to be clearly visible.
One more step that requires use of the command prompt and we're done with that: 1. Close your windows command prompt and wave it good-bye: you won't need it anymore! From this point on, everything else is a walk in the park! Go make yourself a cup of coffee, relax for a few minutes and pat yourself on the head! Restart your computer now! Our next task is to remove the SecuROM files from your computer.
For Vista users, look a bit further down. If you had the uaservice7 file before, look for it and delete it. If you did not have any like me skip this step. Look for a file called CmdLineExt. For Vista users: Instead of the "cmdlineext. Now we're almost done. These are hidden files, so we will have to make them visible first of all: In your Windows Explorer menu, click on 'tools' and open 'Folder Options'.
When your folder options box opens, click on the 'View' tab. Scroll down until you see something called 'hidden files and folders'. This is normally set to 'do not show hidden files and folders'. You will find a folder called 'SecuROM' in there. I unfortunately forgot to make a screenshot of this, but now that your hidden folders have been made visible you should find it easily in the specified location.
It will appear fainter than the folders that are supposed to be visible to you. If you can, delete this folder. If you cannot, open it and delete everything that you can delete. Files and folders to delete. However, looking through the game files and the first run installation scripts has proved that SecuROM can still be installed even if the DLCs don't actually use the activation data that gets installed. After deleting the files and folders listed in the next section, do not use Steam's "Verify game files" function otherwise the files will download again.
These are sorted by type folders, files and install scripts and are formatted by path inside your Borderlands installation folder.. There is a way to remove SecuROM completely from your system.
